Das Deutschlandticket soll nach dem Willen der Koalitionsfraktionen sozialer und familienfreundlicher werden. Der Verkehrsausschuss des Bundestags votierte am Mittwoch für einen Entschließungsantrag der drei Fraktionen und fordert Bund und Länder darin auf, das 49-Euro-Ticket ab 2024 weiterzuentwickeln - "unter anderem mit dem Ziel einer noch familienfreundlicheren Regelung für die Mitnahme von Kindern und Jugendlichen" sowie günstigen Angeboten für Studierende.
Studie: 50 Millionen Menschen leben in moderner Sklaverei
Die Zahl der weltweit in Sklaverei-ähnlichen Verhältnissen lebenden Menschen ist laut einer Untersuchung in den vergangenen Jahren massiv gestiegen. Schätzungsweise 50 Millionen Menschen seien betroffen, zehn Millionen mehr als vor fünf Jahren, teilte am Mittwoch die Organisation Walk Free mit. Globale Krisen wie der Klimawandel sowie bewaffnete Konflikte tragen demnach zu dieser Entwicklung bei - aber auch die Nachfrage nach Gütern, die in Verbindung mit Zwangsarbeit stehen.

Der Anstieg der Verbraucherpreise hat sich in Großbritannien im April deutlich verlangsamt. Die Teuerungsrate lag bei 8,7 Prozent im Jahresvergleich, wie das Statistikamt des Landes am Mittwoch mitteilte - nach 10,1 Prozent im März. Damit fiel die Marke erstmals seit August vergangenen Jahres wieder unter zehn Prozent. Grund dafür ist vor allem eine Entspannung bei den Energiepreisen - hier wiederholte sich der drastische Anstieg des vergangenen Jahres nicht.

Die kommunalen Wasserversorger haben vor steigenden Trinkwasserpreisen für Verbraucherinnen und Verbraucher gewarnt. Grund dafür sei die EU-Trinkwasserrichtlinie zur Wasserqualität, die von der Bundesregierung per Verordnung umgesetzt werden soll. Der Hauptstadtflughafen BER hat erstmals seit seiner Inbetriebnahme einen operativen Gewinn erzielt. Im ADAC-Test haben elf von insgesamt 20 Autokindersitzen eine gute Bewertung erhalten. Ein Modell fällt wegen zu hoher Schadstoffbelastung durch, wie der Automobilklub am Dienstag in München mitteilte. Acht Kindersitze bekamen nur ein "befriedigend", weil sie die gesetzlichen Vorschriften zum Teil deutlich übertreten. Geprüft wurden Sicherheit, Bedienung, Ergonomie und Schadstoffgehalt von Babyschalen, Kleinkindersitzen und Sitzen für größere Kinder.
Habeck hofft auf Verdopplung des Windenergieausbaus an Land in diesem Jahr
Bundeswirtschaftsminister Robert Habeck (Grüne) hofft in diesem Jahr auf eine Verdopplung des Ausbautempos bei der Windenergie an Land. Eine knappe Mehrheit der Menschen in Thüringen ist unzufrieden mit der Demokratie. Das zeigen die Ergebnisse der am Dienstag in Erfurt veröffentlichten Langzeitbefragung "Thüringen-Monitor 2022". Die Zufriedenheit mit der Demokratie sank demnach gegenüber dem Vorjahr um 17 Prozentpunkte auf 48 Prozent. Das ist der stärkste Rückgang seit mehr als 20 Jahren.

Als womöglich erstes EU-Land hat Polen nach Angaben des EU-Außenbeauftragten Josep Borrell mit der Ausbildung ukrainischer Kampfjet-Piloten begonnen. Der Einzelhandelsverband HDE hat seine Prognose für die Umsätze im Onlinehandel in diesem Jahr gesenkt. Der Verband geht nach neuen Angaben vom Mittwoch nun von Umsätzen in Höhe von 89,4 Milliarden Euro aus - das entspricht einem nominalen Plus von 5,8 Prozent im Jahresvergleich. Zu Jahresbeginn war der HDE noch von einem Plus von acht Prozent ausgegangen.

Der Deutsche Mieterbund rechnet in den kommenden Jahren mit weiter deutlich steigenden Mieten und einer wachsenden Zahl an überforderten Haushalten. Nach Absage des 50-stündigen Warnstreiks bei der Deutschen Bahn Mitte des Monats wollen die Eisenbahn- und Verkehrsgewerkschaft (EVG) und der Konzern am Dienstagnachmittag (14.30 Uhr) in Fulda ihre Tarifverhandlungen in vierter Runde fortsetzen. Der republikanische Vorsitzende des Repräsentantenhauses, Kevin McCarthy, sagte am Montagabend (Ortszeit) nach dem Treffen im Weißen Haus, das Gespräch sei zwar "produktiv" verlaufen. Zehn Tage vor einem drohenden Zahlungsausfall der USA sind Präsident Joe Biden und der republikanische Repräsentantenhaus-Vorsitzende Kevin McCarthy zu einem neuen Krisengespräch zusammengekommen. Biden empfing McCarthy am späten Montagnachmittag (Ortszeit) im Weißen Haus zu Verhandlungen und zeigte sich "optimistisch". Nach der Tötung von vier minderjährigen Indigenen in Kolumbien mutmaßlich durch Dissidenten der Rebellenorganisation Farc hat Präsident Gustavo Petro einen regionalen Waffenstillstand in vier Brennpunktregionen mit den linksgerichteten Rebellen aufgekündigt. Die Waffenruhe "ist ausgesetzt und alle Offensiv-Operationen" in den Regionen Meta, Caquetá, Guaviare und Putumayo "werden fortgesetzt", sagte Petro am Montag. Im Gespräch sei etwa ein Verbot der Anbindehaltung in der Landwirtschaft, sagte eine Ministeriumssprecherin. Die Tiere sollten sich frei bewegen können.
